Decorating thoughts for the cooler months

I don't know about your guys but I love the cooler months. I love my home which feels cosier than ever, a safe harbour from the wind, the rain, the dark. There is always a fire crackling in the grate with something puttering away on the stove and yet when you read about winter its always spoken of so negatively, like 'battling the elements', 'fighting the cold', and yet statistically people in cooler climes with long winters and fewer hours of daylight continually and always come out on top e.g. the Danes are amongst the happiest in the world.

I used to hate winter but I've completely changed my mind-set and that has totally and utterly to do with this house and my food obsession. Plonk me in a farmers market and I'm the happiest girl on the planet. Walnuts, figs, last of the quince, sweet potatoes, chestnuts, squashes and pomegranates, leap out at me and beckon me to take them at this time of year. Comforting cossetting food partnered with a cosy pad is my idea of heaven. I love being out in the garden also, wellies on, sometimes I fire up the BGE, or work in the cabin (the tiniest space on the planet, wrapped up in a big blanket). It’s all about creating experiences. You don't find the Danes talking about 'miserable winters'. You find them embracing them, oodles of candles, spaces well-lit and beautifully designed that beckon you in.

It's all about the space you inhabit and making it the cosiest you possibly can. It’s got nothing to do with money. Hygge is not about fancy or showy it’s about thoughtfully decorated spaces that make your heart skip a beat. Here here to the cooler months I say!

Autumn is my favourite month. Being at home is the best place to be in the world. Its good to know I am not alone. The summer is great but autumn, even the word is beautiful.

Looking forwards to warm cozy fall colors, quilts and hot tea. Fall is just around the corner.
