DINING WITH ART & SOUL

Dining rooms are a bit of a dying breed, but whether you’ve got a separate dining room (lucky you!) or just a table snuck into an open-plan space the same rules apply. The dining area more than anywhere else is the place to create drama, glamour and a really cool atmosphere. No better way to do that with art! If you ask me the dining room is the best spot in the house for a gallery wall. You can pack in oodles of personality, make a massive statement and best of all, easily switch it up if you get bored.

Here’s a few of my favourite gallery-worth dining rooms to get you inspired. You can go for one huge canvas or an ever-changing hodge podge of frames, it’s up to you.

Personally, in my dining area I always stay faithful to one of my favourite ever paintings. It’s the blue painting in the pic above – I’ve had it ever since my time living in the States and I just love it. It reminds me of the Great Lakes and endless seas and skies. It’s actually the cover of my Decorating with Style book and is definitely one of the pieces I’d save in a fire! So although the main artwork stays the same, I switch up the vibe by updating some of the pieces around it from time to time as well as the vignette on the console that floats below it. String up a huge chandelier or pendant, light a few candles and add a beautiful statement platter in the middle of the table, and voila! Swoonworthy dining nailed.
