I was rattling around in my house over the weekend moving things around as you do and wanted to add some visual interest to the walls which I felt needed enlivening when I suddenly remembered how inspired I was by the interior designer Michael Bargo whose house I shot last fall for my book A Girls Guide to Decorating. Michael created  an impromptu gallery from tear sheets on his kitchen wall. I loved the fact that he had roughly torn the sheets from the magazine and with a tongue in cheek kind of approach simply tacked them to the walls with black tape

Simple, impromtu, fun and unconventional – is what decorating is all about. Tear sheets become a temporary installation that can be changed by the week, the month or the seasons.

Another way of adding art to you walls without breaking the bank is to group photographs in inexpensive frames in an organic cluster, this automatically animates any wall. The key to making it work is to cluster the images organically – so the spacing is uneven but also very much part of the overall composition, which has the impact of a large single work without the formality. I love how some of the pictures simply just lean against the wall for a relaxed feel.
