1. Go Large

Play with scale! Using oversized pieces of furniture, accessories or art even in the smallest of rooms. Scaling up is a game changing trick to create a sense of grandeur and making the room appear larger, Creating a focal point not only makes your room way cooler, it adds style, personality and intrigue.

2. Play With Shadow

If you have a dark room or corner, avoid trying to make it brighter and lighter, instead play to its darker side and embrace the shadows and cosy cocooning atmosphere by adding super luxe textures and ambient lighting.

3. Colour Drench

Painting out walls, ceiling and woodwork in the same hue is one of the completely transformative. Using this method of decorating creates the perfect backdrop to your furnishings and decor and blurs the boundaries between the walls and the ceiling, disguising any stark lines and making your room feel more larger, cohesive, sophisticated and stylish.

4. Embrace Imperfection

Rooms that feel a little rough around the edges instantly make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Your space should reflect your personality and feel welcoming, something that you cannot achieve with an overly curated space. Think laid back luxe, rooms that read as inviting and enticing you to hunker down.

5. Snub Practicality

Shift your focus from the practical. I would always urge you to decorate a room for how you want to feel in the space. Sure you may have to have some practical elements but don’t let these become the main focal point of a room. For instance my kitchen has all the normal practical elements, but I’ve also styled it with art, soft lighting, shaggy rugs and of course botanicals. It makes the space feel like a room I want to spend time in and enjoy.
