A side table will serve as a practical essential but it can also pack a massive design punch too! Every chair, sofa and bedside should have a beautiful landing spot in which to place books, phones and drinks. Don't underestimate this small but mighty piece of furniture in making a stylish statement. Read on for ways on how to use side tables to their maximum style potential.

Whether it's a dining table, coffee table or the mighty side table, tables are the heart and soul of a room. They can add height, symmetry, asymmetry and act as a stage for some show stopping interior pieces, think an amazing table lamp or some beautiful faux botanicals.

Where to Place a Side Table

From organic and round to angular we find contrasting shapes add a beautiful friction to a living space making it feel far more unique and eclectic. Nestle your favourite side table alongside any accent chair or sofa, at the side of the bed, or in tight spaces like alcoves as well as unused corners.

Styling your Table

Use a cleverly placed side table to showcase your unique style. A large vase of faux flowers, fabulous sculpture, faux plants or memoirs from your travels, they can all be displayed to up the design anti to a redundant corner or sofa side. You can change it up as frequently as you wish or just move the table to a different location. Another plus of the side table is that it's not such a large piece of furniture that takes a huge amount of effort to relocate.

Adding Height To Your Living Space

To counterbalance all those long low lines of sofas and coffee tables etc you need verticals. Use a side table either or both ends of the sofa (not necessarily matching ones) to house your table lamps (also not necessarily matching), the differing heights will add instant interest. Mix up proportion and scale. One of AA's top tips is to look at your interior like a cityscape. You ideally need have a combination of different heights to create an interesting “skyline” in your living space.

Styling Your Bedside Tables

We encourage you to think outside the box when it comes to bedside tables or nightstands. AA likes to mix things up with her bedside styling and chooses something a little more unconventional and mismatched. A chest of draws, console table, cement side table or maybe even a small desk can add a cool vibe and look way more interesting than a matching conventional pair of bedside tables.

Materiality Mix Up

Texture is one of the most important components in the decorating puzzle. You can never overdose on it. A contrast of materials and colour is key to creating interest and eye-catching rooms. For example, think about mixing a concrete bedside table against a wooden clad wall and then adding a shiny tray for your bedside lamp, all set against an abundance of soft furnishings on your bed. A large mix of textures and different materials tantalises the eye and makes for a unique and interesting interior.

Using a Table in the Bathroom

We tend to neglect the bathroom a little when it comes to styling, but practicality can be beautiful too. Create a piece of spa like luxury by placing a small table bath side for housing your essentials, a scented candle and maybe even a glass of something bubbly. Or for creating another layer of height add a faux houseplant for a punch of sumptuous greenery.

Side Tables as Focal Points

Creating a focal point is the foundation for any room in the house and our side tables with their timeless forms elevate and anchor spaces with their beautiful details. From rustic woodgrain to veined marble, our shapely, sculptural tables provide visual interest and versatility presenting the perfect opportunity to be playful without overpowering a room.

Using Indoor Furniture in the Garden

These small but mighty essentials can add a huge dollop of style to every room in your pad, but have you thought of using them in your garden or outside space?
