I LOVE spring! The lilac in the garden is in full bloom and smelling delicious, the wisteria is out and the jasmine is beginning to grow like wild fire. But the garden isn’t where all the action should be taking place. Always one to be mixing things up and pushing boundaries, I love sprucing up a little inside at spring too! Read my top tips for some spring inspiration.
1. LUXE BEDDING
Anyone who comes to one of my Design Schools will know how obsessed I am with my linen sheets. The bed, to me, is the centrepiece of the bedroom. It’s the first and last thing you see each day so it’s worth making them impactful and beautiful.
2. CHANGE UP YOUR FURNITURE
I recently got rid of my lovely blue chairs and replaced them with two Eastman Leather Armchairs, which I adore. Just by changing the odd thing or pulling in an upholstered piece from another space makes a huge difference.
3. RE-ORGANISE YOUR DISPLAYS
Every season I like to re-jig bookshelves, mantles and tables. I don’t necessarily make them feel spring-like, I rather like just changing them up.
4. REPURPOSE AN AREA OR CREATE A NEW ZONE
Not so long ago I created a whole new seating zone in front of the fireplace. I am rather obsessed with sitting in front of a fire and staring into the flickering light at the end of a day. I challenge you to repurpose an unused room or space turning it into a dream area – I did.
5. GET CREATIVE WITH YOUR COFFEE TABLE
I use books as part of my tablescape – they serve as a low base in which to plop a vase of blooms, tea-lights or candles. Depending on the size of your table you can lay your tomes in a grid fashion or simply go for one stack – simple yet effective.
6. ADD MORE FOCAL POINTS
Most people, in my humble opinion, only have one focal point – I want you to have three. This gives your eye three places to rest, immediately making your space feel far more tantalising and cool. Having three focal points makes your eye jump around a space to create interest and depth. This could be colour, shape or size. Focal points are one of the most transformative things I love for creating a space, and is often a game changer.
