I have had a passion for interior design for as long as I can remember. In fact, interior design is what I would do if I wasn’t a comedian and talk show host. And when you really think about it, they’re not that different. As a talk show host, I sit and talk with beautiful people all day. They all have fun quirks that make them interesting and unique. They have a story to tell. They have outstanding bone structure, and yet what really matters is what’s on the inside. It’s the same with houses.
I first saw one of Ellen DeGeneres’ (fabulous) homes gracing the pages of a glossy American magazine. It was her Malibu pad, perched high up in the hills surrounded by the most beautiful landscape, with lots of small guesthouses in the grounds. I was intrigued. Ellen really does have great style. Over 25 years she has bought and renovated over a dozen homes and in her new tome she takes us through some of these properties.
This book was on my Christmas and birthday lists because I really couldn’t wait to get my hands on it, and nobody seemed to be getting the hints! Anyway now I’ve finally got it, I can recommend. You’ll see how Ellen masterfully mixes rustic with modern French, tribal finds with graffiti, what’s inspired her and her nuggets of design wisdom, all dispensed with typical DeGeneres fun and humour. A good read indeed.
