IS THIS REALLY THE “WORLD’S UGLIEST COLOUR”?

IS THIS REALLY THE “WORLD’S UGLIEST COLOUR”?

Colour is incredibly personal as I always say. You might find that your spirits lift at a deep burgundy, a rich chocolate brown, a zesty chartreuse or even a pastel pink (hey I’m not judging). So I was pretty interested to hear that there’s been research into finding the “world’s ugliest colour”. Crazy I thought, how can there possibly be one ugly colour? Well apparently it’s Pantone 448C, and surprise surprise but I love it. It’s exactly the sort of sludgy, murky, deep, bottom of the lake type hues that I adore. Pantone call it  “Opaque Couché”, but it’s actually pretty similar to my own Wooster Olive paint colour…

See what I mean? That’s Pantone 448C on the left, and Wooster Olive on the right. Not that ugly if you ask moi! Not that I was consulted on these things, but I really should have been. The marketing research came back with descriptions like ““dirty”, “death”, and “tar”. Now call me crazy but I’m thinking more like the images above. Nature, mossy stones and waterfalls, long walks in a damp rich forest, springy ground and leaves under your feet… the sort of thing I daydream about while I’m stuck at my desk for long hours. It’s also the colours of parkas, olive groves and even the Mona Lisa! A fabulous colour if you ask me.

I’ve painted my bathroom in Wooster, but I’ve been itching to try it out for a study or living room. Swampy hues are super soothing and sophisticated in interiors. So today I’d like to show some love to this neglected so-called ugly colour – below are my favourite Opaque Couché treats to swamp up your pad. What do you guys think? Ugly or no?
