TOP TIPS FOR STYLING SURFACES

TOP TIPS FOR STYLING SURFACES

I’m talking coffee tables, bookshelves, consoles, side tables, bedsides, entry tables, sideboards, and mantles!  Before I get into it I should say that styling surfaces is the ultimate finishing touch – its makes the space homely, inviting and characterful!

DIMENSIONS

You want accessories to butt over one other and intersect. What you don’t want is lots of gaps, i.e. vase (gap), artwork (gap), sculpture (gap)! ugg. When putting together a vignette select objects of different heights and shapes. The lower and smaller items go to the front and the taller go to the back.  It’s literally as simple as that.

COMPOSITION

Balance the colours and the materials. Incorporate a mixture of textures, books, art, sculptures, and flowers as much as you can.

NARRATIVE

By that I mean things picked up from far-flung places or weekend get always. Pieces that make you happy are attractive and tell a story!

MULTIPLES

I do this with flowers and stems quite a lot. If there is something you love double or treble up on it and pepper it everywhere. I do!
