Many people shy away from colour in the kitchen, opting instead for a subdued palette, but an unexpected hue will elevate your space like nothing else.
Abi x
Holly has embraced a saturated hue in her kitchen and opted for Pickle on her kitchen cabinets as well as her walls and ceiling.
Getting the Light just Right.
Notoriously, kitchen lighting tends to be quite severe and too bright, and although there are times when we need task lighting to prepare food etc, having a number of different light sources in the kitchen means we can create just the right ambience at the right time. We need to make the room somewhere we would like to hang out and lighting design is a key element in creating the right vibe. As well as the main lighting, Holly has used a number of different table lamps to create the right mood when the natural light fades. The soft down light perfectly complements the tantalising pickle hue.
Abi adds dried grasses to not only reflect the coastal surroundings but to add movement and contrast to the cement vase.
Botanicals to enliven and soften.
Having AA as a big sister means styling help is always on hand. Using botanicals in any room but especially the kitchen ensures that any hint of sterile or harsh lines are softened with pretty flowers or dried grasses that add movement as well as a nod to Holly's coastal surroundings.
Finishing Touches
Holly has smattered sculpture and other accessories to add personality and character. Another clever design trick is to have certain colours on repeat to create a cohesive space. The pops of white create a thread that links each space from the kitchen island to the dining table.
