Before You Start
Do your research and take your time to think about how you would like your room to look and feel. Gather your inspiration and remember that colour behaves differently accordingly to where you put it, so ensure that you move your peel and stick sample in your chosen hue around the room at different times of the day to see how it responds to different light sources.
Prepare The Room
Move all of the furniture, rugs and accessories etc either out of the room of into the centre of the room and ensure that it is sufficiently protected with dust sheets. Cover your floor to protect it from splatters and spills, even the most experienced painters make a little mess or have the odd accident.
Prepare your surfaces by ensuring they are smooth and free of dirt and fill any small cracks or holes if necessary. It's also a good idea to ensure that the room is well ventilated throughout your project.

The Order In Which To Paint A Room
- Start with the ceiling, use a paintbrush around the fixtures first followed by a roller for the rest.
- Then paint the walls using the same process as the ceiling, cutting in first with a brush.
- Time for the window frames, doors and skirting boards.
Paint Application Tips
- Stir the paint thoroughly before use
- Paint all of the edges (cutting in) with a brush first, this gives a neater edge.
- Paint the rest of the wall (or ceiling) with a roller
- Before you paint your next coat, allow the previous one to dry thoroughly.
Dressing The Room
Once you have finished your final coat of paint and left to dry thoroughly, you're ready to put everything back in. This is the fun bit. Arrange your furniture, lay your rugs and add your favourite art and accessories, voila! Enjoy your new space.
