HOW TO CREATE YOUR DREAM HOME

The Bathroom - The Spa Zone

Bathrooms can be sometimes a little overlooked. We're good at spending time searching out all the practical stuff (tub, taps, tiles) and not so good at finding those all-important elements that take them from being super sterile to our very own relaxing spa like sanctuary.

FEELING INSPIRED?

Our bathrooms are quite often neglected on the style front. We treat them as somewhere that feels super practical but they should still integrate with the rest of your home. But when you treat practical spaces like kitchens and bathrooms like living rooms and make them more decorative, it totally changes the vibe of them and cosies them up.

HERE'S HOW

Think of your bathroom as an extension of your home rather than a purely functional space. A statement mirror instantly elevates the room, bringing character, depth and an effortless sense of luxury and softer lighting wherever possible, a dimmer switch, scented candles and portable LED lamps will transform even the simplest evening bath into a calming, spa-like ritual.

Replace the expected cold floor with a beautiful rug to add warmth, texture and comfort underfoot, styling the space as thoughtfully as you would a living room or bedroom. Soften hard surfaces and breathe life into the room with faux plants that stay looking lush and beautiful even in bathrooms with little or no natural light.

Finally, embrace colour with confidence by colour drenching the walls in a rich, enveloping hue or opting for a tactile finish such as tadelakt to create a beautifully cohesive space with boutique hotel appeal.

Bathroom Design Notes

✓ Design Do's

  • Consider colour drenching to create a seamless harmonious vibe
  • Use plants to soften hard surfaces
  • Scent your space to give it that spa like feel
  • Decorate like you would your other rooms to add character
  • Consider propping a ladder for towels to add height and intrigue

✗ Design Don'ts

  • Make the room feel too sterile, it needs to be a relaxing space
  • Be afraid to use rugs, cold floors are a complete no no
  • Skimp on storage to hide away ugly plastic bottles etc.
  • Rely solely on the central light, add in extra to create a luxe mood
