DECORATING WITH BOOKS

I love books from novels ideally big weighty tomes; to coffee table glossies. Weight books add such a warming touch to any space – not to mention some pattern and instant texture. Here’s some ways to decorate with them.

CLUSTER

All over my pad are little clusters of books on coffee tables, shelves, consoles with generally something scented on them like a candle or potpourri – I love it.

DONT THINK YOU ALWAYS NEEDS SHELVES

You can heap and pile books on mantle pieces, coffee tables the floor, ottomans – they look totally fab especially the bigger coffee table ones.

ADD SOME FRONT FACERS

If you’ve got lots of shelves containing books, rather than looking at endless spines front face some of them towards you. This way you’re creating more of an installation, it’s way more pleasing to the eye and you get to see some interesting covers at the same time. I do this all the time with mags, books, and postcards.

GO HUNTING

Add objet d’art to piles of books and remember to stack them horizontally and vertically to up the interest. If you’re book collection is in its early days, fear not, we all have to start somewhere and markets are great resources for finding some really interesting ones.
