Might be nothing better to show the rejuventation in Detroit than this cool pad. It’s a former bank building on Michigan Avenue, and for ages has really just been a big canvas for street art. But some seriously cool renovations later, and now it’s a really cool home in West Corktown.
If I’m totally honest there’s a bit too much white for my tastes, but still lots to love here. Firstly it’s an absolutely huge space (3000 sq ft!), but with all the clever open plan zones that have been created there are still some cosy little nooks. A lot of the original features have been kept, from a beautiful old foyer and built in marble benches to all the pipes and even chipboard supports. Just goes to show what thinking outside the box can do! I think it all adds a really cool edge, even though you wouldn’t usually think of them for a residential home. My favourite space has to be the amazing snug – rough, unfinished walls, lowslung comfy sofas and cool artwork gets my vote everytime.
