Longevity.
I have pieces in my home that I’ve had for 20 years and hopefully will have for the next 20 years and beyond that. Pieces that have longevity, that stand the test of time no matter the trend and no matter which side of the world I might be living on.
Your home should be unique to you, somewhere that supports all of your physical and emotional needs, enabling you to switch off from the world outside as soon as you step inside the door.
Lighting.
Lighting is the single most important investment you can make, and its got nothing to do with spending zillions on a statement worthy chandelier, as lovely as that might be. I’m talking table lamps, pendants, sconces and it matters not if you live in a rental, if it's your first home or your forever home – accent lighting makes the hugest difference and you can take it anywhere.
Lovely Linens.
We spend a large proportion of our time in bed so why not make it a sumptuous experience. High quality cotton and linen will stand the test of time compared to cheaper alternatives. Invest in not only the right size, pattern and texture but also take your time to find the right rug. A rug can make the hugest difference to your room and will add a sumptuousness that you just can't get from any other textile. Faux botanicals have come such a long way from the crisp plastic versions from the 70s and 80s in gaudy colours.
